The IS3750 is a One-Wire Addressable LED controller chip. Your microcontroller writes the LED data to the IS3750 internal memory map via I2C, while the chip continuously renders and streams this data, keeping the LEDs updated. Since all the complex tasks of data rendering and streaming are handled by the IS3750, your microcontroller can send the data at a relaxed pace—slowly or in paused partial updates—without any issues, allowing the IS3750 to keep the LEDs perfectly updated..

The IS3750 frees your microcontroller from the strict timing requirements of controlling the One-Wire protocol, thereby reducing the use of timers, flash memory, and RAM. It also eliminates the need for a dedicated pin, as it operates over a shared bus (I2C).

The aim of the IS3750 is to save engineering time and costs associated with implementing and testing the Modbus RTU communication protocol, providing a reliable solution that reduces the time-to-market (TTM) of your product.

The device operates at 3.3V, and its I/O pins are 5V tolerant, allowing the use of either 3.3V or 5V microcontrollers. It is available in two temperature ranges: Industrial (-40ºC to +85ºC) and Extended (-40ºC to +125ºC).

Q: How does the IS3750 work?
A: You write data to its internal memory via I2C, and the device converts it into addressable LED data to control the LEDs.

Q: Does the IS3750 require a specific LED library or complex setup?
A: No. The primary benefit of the IS3750 Addressable LED Controller is its simplicity. It only requires standard I2C access—similar to writing to an EEPROM—to write RGB values, eliminating the need for specialized addressable LED libraries or complex timing setups.

Q: How many LEDs can the IS3750 control?
A: Up to 1,200 three-color LEDs or 900 four-color LEDs.

Q: Can I build a screen with addressable LEDs and play video on it?
A: No. While addressable LEDs may seem fast, they are not well suited for video or display applications. For screens and video playback, other LED technologies are a much better choice.

Q: I need to control the LEDs using SPI. Is there a solution?
A: Yes. We offer the IS3752, an SPI-based addressable LED controller.

Q: Do you have a DMX-to-addressable LED controller chip?
A: Yes. We offer the IS3751, a DMX-to-addressable LED controller chip that works standalone, without the need for an external microcontroller.

Q: Which LED color sequences can the IS3750 control?
A: Any color sequence, including GRB, RGB, GRBW, and others.

Q: Which LEDs are compatible with the IS3750?
A: All LEDs based on the WS281x protocol are supported, including WS2811, WS2812 / WS2812B / WS2812C, WS2813, WS2815, NeoPixel, SK6812, GS8208, and others.

Q: How does the IS3750 help reduce CPU usage?
A: The IS3750 handles the continuous, time-critical data stream and precise timing internally, freeing your microcontroller from heavy ISR and processing load. You only need to write the corresponding I2C registers.

Q: Does the IS3750 datasheet include a schematic example?
A: Yes. See the datasheet or download the example.

Q: Are there firmware examples for the IS3750?
A: Yes. See the Arduino example, the STM32 example, and Raspberry Pi example.

Q: Do you have evaluation boards for the IS3750?
A: Yes. We offer evaluation boards in the Arduino Uno form factor (Kappa3750Ard), which is also compatible with STM32 Nucleo, as well as a Raspberry Pi version (Kappa3750Rasp).

Q: In which products is the IS3750 typically used?
A: Custom lighting, LED signaling, color-coded process indicators, architectural lighting, status bars or meters, interactive buttons or sliders with visual feedback, and similar applications.

Q: Is there any demonstration video for the IS3750?
A: Yes, check it on Youtube.
